Collin Street now has a new bakery!“Design City Cakes and Bakery” opened up on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, featuring cakes, cookies, and a delicious variety of desserts including individual pineapple upside down cakes.Customers began coming in as soon as the doors opened with the aroma of fresh baked cookies and brownies filling the air and tempting their taste buds as they gazed at the display of fresh morsels to choose from.Ann Dixon, a former accountant for 15-years, decided to go back to school and become a “Sugar Artist.” She learned to make 3-D styled cakes, a talent she has learned to master and is shown in the cakes she makes.Dixon, along with her mother, Carolyn Henry, who is also the chief cookie maker, decided to take the business out of her Kerens home and open up in downtown Corsicana.“I fell in love with this spot as soon as I saw it,” Dixon said. She’s had a couple of her creations featured on Day Star Television, and many of her creations can be viewed on her website at www.designcitycakes.com. “We do cut outs, cup cake cakes, groom’s cakes, wedding cakes, cakes for showers, and of course the 3-D cakes,” Dixon said. “I do deliver. I deliver in Corsicana within a 10 mile radius for free. A small delivery charge occurs if I have to deliver past that.”Many of her orders have come from Palestine and as far away as Dallas, including a $1,000 custom wedding cake she delivered to one client back in April. She also does regular cakes including German chocolate and Italian crème, and will offer big pies and large orders of cookies by special order only. Brownies include plain, raspberry-chocolate, turtle, and “Death by Chocolate.”She offers fresh cheesecakes and if you are looking for fresh bread, she will bake loaves by special order. Any one wishing to place an order can contact the bakery at (903)-872-5606.
