After the regular session of the Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees, board members adjourned for a closed session meeting in regards to Superintendent Don Denbow’s contract with the school district.

Upon returning, the board voted unanimously to extend Denbow’s contract another year to January 30, 2011. No salary figure has been finalized by the board for Denbow’s contract.

CISD is already gearing up for the Education Foundation Telethon, which will be held at the Cook Center on the Navarro College Campus. The event will also be televised on Northland Cable Televisions channel 3. Bob Belcher is scheduled to MC this year’s event.

Corsicana High School Spanish teacher Lucy Jones was honored at Monday evening’s board meeting. Jones, a CISD teacher since 1996, was recently selected to receive the 2008 College Board AP Award after demonstrating long term and multifaceted involvement with the AP program.

She will be attending a regular meeting on January 30, 2008, in Frisco where her peers will honor her.

The Board of Trustees will have two places up for election.

The two places that will need to be filled are Place 1, currently held by Kerri Anderson Donica, and Place 2, which is currently held by Donna Ralston.

Other items on the agenda included the approval of Diversified Career Preparation (DCP) course for Corsicana High School.

Trustees approved a waiver for Corsicana High School for a missed instructional day.

The request for the waiver came about due to a power outage on December 3, 2007, at the high school after the Site-Based Decision Making Committee determined that the safety of the students would be at jeopardy with no electricity on the entire campus. Students were dismissed and sent home while electricians worked throughout the remainder of the day and into the night to restore electricity to the campus.

The waiver is a formal document, which has to be filed with TEA under TEC 25.081.

One final item on Monday evening’s agenda included the approval of changes made to the Corsicana High School and Collins Middle School Cheerleader Constitution Amendments. A list of changes was given to trustees to look over before they voted to approve the changes with some minor re-phrasing of wording in certain areas.
