An armed black male in dark clothing robbed the Dollar General Store located on North Main Street around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, taking an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing the store on foot. According to police, witnesses said the suspect discharged a handgun, shooting at least two rounds into the ceiling in an attempt to get the attention of patrons and cashiers during the robbery. Witnesses told police the man fled heading north before turning in an easterly direction towards North Beaton Street. Other witnesses reported seeing the suspect get into a red Pontiac Bonneville, with a dark blue drivers door, on Commerce Street before driving away. Corsicana Police Captain Kenneth Kirkwood said an off duty officer heard the call and spotted the suspect’s car on the eastside of town. The officer saw the suspect pull into the driveway of a residence and enter the home, but apparently the man left the residence before additional officers could arrive at the scene. “We do have a warrant on the suspect,” Captain Kirkwood said, “and hope to arrest this individual over the next couple of days.” Kirkwood said the suspect fits the description of an individual wanted in connection with the robbery of the Dollar General on West Seventh Avenue in 2007. Officers were able to impound the suspect’s vehicle where they found traces of marijuana according to scanner traffic late Tuesday evening. No one was hurt during the incident.
