Voters across Navarro County turned out Tuesday to cast their ballot for President, as well as many other national, state and local races. The county’s Democrats prefered Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama by a 56.19 to 40.92 percent margin. Republicans went for John McCain, 51.62%, over Mike Huckabee, who received 41.67% of the vote. For State Representative, District 8, incumbent Republican Byron Cook defeated challenger Bobby Vickery district-wide, as well as in Navarro County. For Sheriff, incumbent Les Cotten easily defeated challenger Jim McDowell, 75.66% to 24.34% of the vote.
For County Commissioner, Precinct #3, incumbent Bill Baldwin, with a margin of 52.47%, defeated Charles Statham, who received 45.53%. Democrat Baldwin will face Butch Warren in November, who defeated Larry Winters in the Republican primary, 67.65% to 32.35%. Democrat Clay Beard will face Republican James Lagomarsino in the general election this fall. Lagomarsino received 1,856 votes outdistancing Kelly Myers who received 1,570 votes.
