United Way held its annual award luncheon on Friday, March 7, 2008, at Napoli’s.

At least 17 trusts and foundations contributed just under $160,000, with corporate donations totaling $158,000.

Nearly $65,000 was collected by various businesses and individuals throughout the community.

Holloman said approximately $393,500 was pledged by the businesses, corporations, and individuals along with the trusts and foundations.

“We were very pleased,” Holloman said, “to make our goal. We were concerned this year about making our goal since the economy is a little unstable at the moment. In fact, some of our top ten pledges increased their pledge this year, so we were pleased overall with the campaign.”

Several awards were presented to some of the area businesses and corporations during the luncheon.

Citizens National Bank received the 100 Percent Award, with employees 100 percent participation mark for the 2008 campaign.

The Community Pillar Award was given out to Corsicana National Bank and Trust, Kohl’s Department Stores, and Oil City Iron Works.

CNB&T employees pledged $6,000 with the bank matching that total, and added an additional $300 to make their final pledge in the amount of $12,300.

Employees of Kohl’s Distribution Center and Call Center, through payroll deduction pledges, raised $5,573 and raised another $6,990 through special activities. Combined with the corporations 25 percent match, Kohl’s Corporation raised a total of almost $15,716.75.
