Discover beautiful Texas gardens as you stroll through the elegant neighborhoods and grand lawns of five private residences. This wonderful event takes place on Sunday, April 6, 2008. Enjoy lunch at the Kinsloe House or take home a box lunch. Lunch is served from 11:30 am until 2 pm and the Garden Tour is from 1 pm until 4 pm. A variety of gardening styles, native and annual plantings, and unique garden collections are featured in this year’s garden tour. Begin your garden tour by first enjoying lunch at the Kinsloe House or get a box lunch to take home. Art and craft vendors will have booths set up on the Kinsloe house lawn. Beautiful donated items will be for sale by silent auction. Members of the Woman’s Club House
Association of Navarro County have prepared wonderful baked good to buy and take home also. The KcKie home, located at 1111 Governor’s Drive was built by John R. Corley and wife Jaybe Ellyn Corley. It was the boyhood home of David and Robert “Bob” Corley. The ornate fencing around the property is believed to have been purchased in New Orleans. The lighting of the giant magnolia tree in the front yard has become a Christmas tradition for children and adults alike. This rite began when the tree was only 8 feet tall. Marsha McKie invites you to visit her special garden yard from the past. The home of Dr. James and Carolyn Price is located at 1819 Elmwood. It was built in 1939 and they bought the house from Herb Jacobs in 1969. The architect who built the home was O’Neil Ford. It was said that “O’Neil Ford’s houses whether traditional or contemporary, appear nestled among the trees, as though they had grown gradually with the foliage”. This is what makes the Price home so appealing They have enjoyed creating shade loving gardens in their backyard for many years. After losing several large oak trees in the last five years, they are learning more about gardening in the sun. The Price’s have beautiful azaleas planted throughout their yard.Gary and Sandra Waggoner live at 2041 Glenwood Circle. Their home was part of the original Drane estate was built in the mid 1970’s by Bob Scott. The Waggoner’s have done extensive work to their home and gardens. One of the many delights is the front courtyard which contains many magical features. Janice King live at 2033 Glenwood Circle which will always be known as the Smith home. This home shows its grace and charm. Its on the Drane Edition and was the Lot to built on along Glenwood Circle. The home started with the Smith’s eye for color in the garden. Their children gave their parents the flowering fruit trees in the front and side yards. The blossoms are in the shades of hot pink and light pink, as well as the white plum blossoms that are gorgeous in their full glory. Janice has numerous bulbs which will pop up all through the year. The colors will spotlight the shades of blues and whites with touches of pink. Antique gates welcome garden visitors. The tables that are along the shoreline give guests a chance to sit and soak in the beauty of the old Oak and Cypress trees that shade the side yard of Janice’s home. It is a quiet place for guests to feel the cool breeze that comes across the pond. Kyle and Leesa Ward live at 1920 Sycamore. They are a young family with small children and have built a large addition to their already large home. A new pool and two outdoor living areas have also been added. Visitors can view poolside landscaping and outdoor living areas which include an outdoor fireplace. Leesa says her banana trees are one of their favorite plants in the yard. She enjoys many tropical plants in her backyard garden area. Be sure to plan your leisurely, fun-filled and informative weekend in Corsicana while touring the gardens. Master gardeners will be present to answer your questions when Corsicana once again celebrates the joy of Gardening. Lunch and Tour tickets may be purchased at the door.
