Men, women, and children, young and old, gathered on the grassy lawn with miniature flags in hand at the Navarro County Courthouse Monday afternoon during a memorial service program in honor of National Police Memorial Day, and National Police Week (May 11 through May 17, 2008).

The ceremony began shortly after 5:10 p.m., with Corsicana Police Chief G.M. Cox serving as Master of Ceremony.Corsicana Police Department’s Color Guard marched silently towards the ceremony area passing in front of saluting members of the Honor Guard, a combination of CPD, Navarro County Sheriff Deputies, and 1st Texas State Troopers, and displaying both the United States flag and the Texas State flag.

NCSO Chaplain Rick Lamb led the invocation before Ft. Worth Police Officer Greg Riddle sang the National Anthem.Retired Sgt. Lewis Palos, CPD, was the guest speaker for the occasion.Lewis’s words were heartfelt by his fellow officers and brothers in law enforcement as he suggested to each and everyone in the audience that, “everyday not just today, we should give words of encouragement and support to our peace officers while they are alive and can hear for themselves that you simply appreciate what they do for you, this community, this state and this country.”
