It was a back-to-back crowning for the Winfrey sisters at the 2008 Miss Juneteenth Pageant held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center last Thursday evening on June 19, 2008, as Kezia took possession of the crown from her older sister, Brittney, the 2007 Miss Juneteenth.

Their mother, Rowena Winfrey, couldn’t hold back the excitement of seeing her younger daughter named as this year’s Miss Juneteenth, as she made her way through the crowd to hug and congratulate her as she stepped off of the stage.

“It felt wonderful,” mom said. “As far as I know there’s never been back-to-back Miss Juneteenth that were sisters.”

Rowena said it was a great feeling to see it actually happen.

“I think Brittney was happier about it then Kezia,” she said.

Before the pageant, older sister Brittney told Kezia just to give it her best.

As a result, her best turned out to be the prestigious award that night.

From here, Miss Juneteenth will now fulfill her duties by making appearances at churches, gatherings, and programs throughout the rest of 2008 and into 2009.

She will also be hosting the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in January as well as recruiting new contestants for next year’s pageant.

Runner-ups were Ms. Washington and Ms. Woods.

Master Bear was Micah Cook, and Little Miss JESA was Kentria Murphy.

Orlando Williams was the Master of Ceremony for the evening.
