Saturday night, the City of Kerens was a pickin' and a grinnin' to the sounds of Yee-Haw.The VOICE group hosted the tribute to Hee-Haw and its famous cast to help raise money for their program in Kerens. Boy Scout troop #253 served each guest with a BBQ dinner and dessert before the show begin. Roy Clark and Buck Owens opened up the show and the guest list included Tammy Wynette, Junior Samples, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Grandpa Jones, Lulu Roman, Minnie Pearl, and Sheb Wooley. The Cossey Girls were telling the latest gossip, Grandpa Jones told us what was for supper, and Junior Samples was trying to sell us something and telling us to call BR-549. After all was said and done the event raffled off 5 items from the drawings held that night and auctioned off 21 items to help VOICE to maintain their programs for the year. VOICE has partnered with Kerens Independent School District for the past 9 years and is looking forward to working with the children and families of this area for many more.Gloom and agony wasn't at this fun-filled night. It was a step back into the past that made the audience remember a time where gas wasn't high, and TV was not reality based and good family time was spent together having a few laughs.
