Corsicana has something to brag about this Fourth of July, a 51lb. watermelon.  This melon was grown with loving care to make sure no rabbits or other creatures could snack on it before its' owners had a slice for their Fourth of July party.  The proud owners of this huge watermelon are Sheri and Jonathan Wallace.  They are the mother and son duo who work everyday tending to their garden and their chickens.  Sheri owns the Chest of Treasures store right off Business 45 and Jonathan attends Corsicana High.
They have a beautiful garden with everything from squash to you guest it watermelons.  They didn't purposely grow the melon so big it just had a mind of its own.  They had a Fourth of July party and sliced it open for their family and friends. When they opened it up they found out it was all the way ripe.  They had picked so the animals wouldn't get into it first, but it was a little premature.  But all and all it was a huge watermelon for this family and for our town.  The hot temperatures and great food always goes down a little easier with a cold slice of delicious watermelon.  Maybe next year they will beat their own record and get to enjoy the sweet rewards from their fruit of their labor.
