Good news!It’s finally happening.The event everyone has been waiting for, as excitement is filling the air and folks are making leaps and bounds to line up in front of its doors to be the first one in.That’s right, Black Jack McCanless Steakhouse and Saloon is finally open!After year’s hard work coupled with the discovery of the infamous “hole-in-the-ground,” and the hours upon hours of training the wait staff and cooks, the restaurant is ready to serve the public some of the finest food available in the area.The menus are unique in their design, not only providing customers a list of delicious appetizers, steaks, salads, and sandwiches, but also gives a little history about the location, and much more. The signature dish for Black Jack’s is their Bone-in Rib Eye steak, and cooked to your liking. With each bite you’ll feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven, as the juicy, tender cut literally melts in your mouth!
Black Jack’s offers a variety of steaks as well, including their Trail Boss Porterhouse, “The Outlaw” Bone-in Strip, and the Silver Star Bacon Wrapped Filet.If that doesn’t make you hungry then maybe appetizers such as the Train Robbers or Pickle Posts will make you pucker up and ask for more.More you say!Check out the Roundup Sampler, or the Tilghman’s Cheese Fries. Maybe you’re in the mood for a little Catawampous consisting of a war party of mixed and wild veggies, Jalapeno Bottle Caps, Zorro’s Zucchini Slices, Lasso Rings, Pickle Posts, with a whopping side barrel of Black Jack secret dipping sauce!After that, try some of the Ranch Hand special entrees. Items like the Gunslinger (Grilled Quail with Jalapeno Plum Sauce), or Calamity Jane’s Chicken Brasilla (two grilled chicken breasts, rolled in spices and cinnamon, and drizzled in Black Jack’s fresh Cilantro Lime Sauce, on a bed of Wild West Rice). Other items include Flat Grilled Tilapi (that’s how they pronounce in the old west), Poled Grilled Shrimp, and the “Border Town” Spicy Chicken Pasta (an old favorite of Black Jack himself), and don’t forget to try their Skillet Taters for a new twist on an old staple that will literally knock your socks off and satisfy your appetite!Black Jack’s offers daily lunch specials served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and offers a Lil’ Partners menu for kids 12 and under!Don’t forget to mosey on over to the bar and ask the barkeep to whip up your favorite drink.While you’re there, check out the fine workmanship of the bar, which was once owned by Marshall Bill Tilghman! Rick Hocker, owner of Black Jack McCanless Steakhouse and Saloon, is excited, and relieved all at the same time.“I’ve had very little sleep,” Hocker said, after getting dressed in black jeans and black shirt, and carrying a pair of six-shooters on his hip, while preparing for the doors to open. “It’s been a long hard fight, but it’s a good day for all of us!”Hocker is not the only one ready for the hostess to open the door and greet customers, as several of the neighboring merchants chipped in a few words about his restaurant.“I’m glad that Black Jack’s is finally open!” said Shawn Abernathy, with Copy Center. “With all of the excitement surrounding the old (underground) speakeasy, I’m sure it’ll draw people from all around.” Abernathy said the food is great and looks forward to going back as often as possible. Crystal, from Always In Bloom, said she was happy to see the restaurant finally open.“They have good food, and we are excited to have them as our neighbor,” she said.Charles Williams was cutting a client’s hair at his barbershop when he was asked to comment on the opening.“The food is delicious,” said Williams. “I’ll be there today, for sure!”William’s customer Dan Williams said he was looking forward to visiting the steakhouse, and plans to continue to spread the word to other folks around the Richland-Chambers Lake area.“There’s a lot of folks from around there that have already been talking about the restaurant,” Dan said. Many of Black Jack’s customers have already made it their home as you may run into some of them at lunch and suppertime everyday.During the first six days of operation, Black Jack’s has already drawn visitors from around the Lone Star state and nationally, as well as a couple from Geneva, Switzerland!
The restaurant is located in downtown Corsicana at 105 South Beaton Street.
If you are coming in from Highway 22, continue on until you get to Beaton Street and turn right. Go about four blocks and the restaurant will be on your left.If you are coming in from West Highway 31, continue east on Seventh Avenue until you get to Beaton Street. Take a left and go one block. Continue on to the middle of the next block and the restaurant will be on your right.
If you are coming in from East Highway 31, or Interstate 45, or Highway 287, head west on Seventh Avenue until you come to Beaton Street. Turn right on Beaton and continue approximately one block and a half. The restaurant will be in the middle of the second block on your right.So if you’re looking for a delicious steak, great atmosphere, and a little historical presence, then head on down to Black Jack McCanless Steakhouse and Saloon for your next great meal.
