A city mail carrier for the US Postal Service was critically injured Tuesday, when his mail van was hit by a construction truck pulling a trailer at the intersection of Business 45 and First Avenue.  A USPS spokesman confirmed that the mail carrier, identified as Donnie Evett, was care-flighted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.  “He remains on life support,” McKinney Boyd said, late on Wednesday night. “He is being sustained on the life support system.”

The accident is being investigated by local law enforcement; however, the safety division of the postal service has possession of the mail van and is doing a “full-scale” investigation of the vehicles and accident.

The postal van was apparently struck on the right hand side (the driver’s side for mail delivery) by the construction truck after the driver failed to stop for a red light.  Further details were not available at press time.
