Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Charles Edward Cates, passed away peacefully Friday July 25, 2008.Charles was born in Corsicana on January 4, 1937 to Edd D. Cates and Willie Emma Crowe Cates. He was the youngest of four children..Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sister Billie Wren, and brother Darrell Cates.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Delores, and their children: daughter Donna McCraw of Hewitt, daughter and son in lawa Debbie and Kevin Gilmore of Temple, and son Tim Cates of Waco as well as for grandchildren Zachary, McCraw of Hewitt, Cameron, Hayley and Hannah Gilmore of Temple.
He is also survived by brother Delmar Cates of Corsicana and several nieces and nephews.
Charles was in the trucking business his entire life, first in construction, then oil field and finally home building materials. Anywhere you travel in the state of Texas you are on a road that his equipment helped build.Services will be 2:00 pm Monday July 28, 2008 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral
Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Lamb and Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wren, Kenny Grace, John Cates, Mike Allred, Johnny Wright and Danny Wren.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Lewis Picone, Wayne McClellan, Ray Scoggins, Charlie Knott, Charles McCrory, Bobby Comton, David Garrett, Bobby Garrett and B.J. Perry.  Graveside will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5pm Sunday
July 27, 2008 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
