On August 1, 2008 Roy Abbott, our beloved “Da” was called home to be with Jesus. Roy was born in Malakoff on April 20, 1934 to Dock & Bertha Abbott. He was the oldest of five children. Married to Vera Rutherford in 1956, he lived in Corsicana and worked in the Sheet Metal and Air Condition business until his retirement.

During retirement, Roy spent his time working with cattle, horses, and agriculture. He was a member of Powell Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morris Holcomb and Rev. Clayton Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Mankin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Higgins, Bobby Bland, Gary Dutton, Terry Perry, Terry Parrish, and Sonny Bancroft. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dwayne Garner, Billy Joe Conger, M.R. “Bunk” Bottoms, Jabo McClendon, Benny Horn, and Buster Carter.

Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his parents; Dock & Bertha Abbott and his infant sister; Bonnie Abbott.

He is survived by his Wife of 52 Years; Vera Abbott, Daughter; Donna Simmons of Mildred, Son-in-Law; Curtis Simmons of Teague, Grandchildren; Chris & Alicia Simmons of Midlothian, Heather Lynn & Jeremy Spell of Houston, Great Grandchildren; Brittany and Bailey Bayes of Midlothian, Sisters & Brothers-in-Law; Bobbie & Leamon Rogers and Joyce & Nolan Baker, and a Brother; Danny Abbott all of Malakoff, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a big host of friends.
