I'm a little upset at the wording used in your "Are the Police Doing Enough to Stop Copper Thefts in the City?" poll that is currently on your website. First of all, that question is obviously baited with a derogatory sentiment from the very beginning--"Are the Police Doing Enough". Sure there are 4 different answers that can be submitted; two of which are supportive of the police. However, the original wording of the question sets the tone, and can also steer readers to negativity involving the police. Of course, I don't need to explain this. You are all journalists, and understand the situation much better than I do. So here's the next issue: Have anyone from your organization gone to the local law enforcement agencies to find out what they have done about these copper thefts? Have they made any arrests? Are there any warrants outstanding? Has anyone been arrested who has been released on bond, charges reduced, etc.? Is this a local issue, statewide, or nationwide? Does the recent article in the CDS about a shortage of local law enforcement officers have anything to do with this? The list goes on.... Then again, I'm not an investigative journalist, and all of you are, so I don't want to sound condescending. Basically, I view your poll as a slap in the face to local law enforcement. The same agencies who I've read about in the CDS about taking a record number of drug dealers off of the street recently, and a very long list of grand jury indictments of sex offenses, alcohol-related, and so on. Since this topic was brought up, I, as a local citizen, would appreciate some further investigation into the matter; and if worthy, would like to see support from your paper for our law enforcement, if it is warranted. Thank you for your time, Chas Henson Jr.
